Pop Culture Roundup for Early May: Mini-musings on Wonder Woman, Young Sigourney, and More
by Karen A. Romanko
Continuing my new feature on Small Screen Pop, a roundup of my recent social media posts about pop culture. It’s another eclectic mix, this time spanning the 50s through the 70s, from Leave It to Beaver to McMillan & Wife, enough kitsch for all of you!
May 1: The episode was called “The Feminum (sic) Mystique,” a two-parter. 70s TV—when realism ruled! 🤣
May 5: Sigourney Weaver, aka Ripley of the Alien franchise, attends a Beatles concert at the Hollywood Bowl, 1964.
May 6: Saw The Shindogs on an ep of The Patty Duke Show today. The Shindogs were the house band for the musical variety series Shindig! (1964-1966). I recognized James Burton, far left, who worked with Elvis during the 70s.
May 7: In sixth grade I wrote a composition about Shindig. I got a B+. 🤗 Did you watch Shindig or Hullabaloo? Both were popular but fizzled fast.

May 7: Comedian and actor Harry Shearer appears in the pilot episode for Leave It to Beaver, “It’s a Small World” (1957). That’s him second from left. I recognized him while watching today. Aptly named episode.
May 9: Happy Mother’s Day to June Cleaver, the mother of all TV moms! 🌼
